Admittedly, when you hear the word "nerd", you probably don't think of "correct spelling". Even though we like to round pi to the five hundredth decimal place, the way many nerds use the German language could be described as... experimental. Sure, if something is misspelled in the code, in the worst case scenario the program won't work - but a misspelled word can still be more or less deciphered. But spelling mistakes are definitely not nerdy!
Quite the opposite! Like the Science cup "Orthography" proves, German can be at least as nerdy as physics, mathematics and the like! This fully printed ceramic mug is full of fascinating information about the language that most of us use every day: The mug shows you common mistakes (and, above all, why these mistakes are so common), reminds you that just about everything in German can be chained together with a hyphen and also illustrates the history of spelling reforms that are loved and hated in equal measure.
In short: a dream for every German teacher, copywriter and basically every person who speaks German! After all, it would be a bit of a double standard to take every little detail into account when it comes to scientific matters, but not when it comes to spelling. Fuenve gehrade sainn zuh laß... ;)
